Authentication - Technologies and Categorisation
According to ISO, there are different kinds of authentication technologies available in the market although these technologies are applied in the three main ares of:
- Anti-Tampering
- Track and Trace
All these techologies can be categorised as either overt, covert, forensic or digital.
- Overt technologies
All devices built into labels, documents and packaging which are visible to the user and show dynamic visual effects fall under this category. These are ment for fast and easy on the spot visual authentication.
- Forensic technologies
Forensic technologies, being convert, are not readily recognisable and require special tools for detection and validation. These must often be taken to alaboratory with specialised equipment for validation.
- Covert technologies
Apart from the requirement of a special reader or detector to verify their presence and validity, it also requires trained professionals. These include ultraviolet & infrared inks, micro text, unique synthetic tagging etc.
- Digital technologies

Mirror
Mirror is a physical mirror transferred on the hologram layer (with & without micro text) It is mostly curved and illuminates the hologram from the opposite side producing the effect of a concave mirror instead of convex. which is usually a real image focused in space so that one can see their own reflection in these mirrors.
Numbering or Serialisation
Numbering or Serialisation can be done over the hologram in random or sequential series by inkJet numbers. hidden numbers visible under UV light. laser etched numbers and solid black numbers or QR code

Taggants are uniquely encoded data based chemical or ink that generally consists of microscopic particles These are secretive processed chemicals impossible to duplicate A taggant is like a unique signature of identity of a product We add these taggants to the holograms which are covert in nature and can be detected with specific readers which can be solely provided by Holoprint
Talking pen device will react to a motif printed onto the substrate in invisible inks and it reads the coating on the foil and with the help of a sensor it plays an audio file such as “This is a genuine product”
